The Watch An Enticing Invitation Online2016 election may be in our rearview mirror but former president Barack Obama will still have a chance to perturb current president Donald Trump.
SEE ALSO: Angela Merkel's powerful side-eye at Ivanka Trump is asking the question we're all wonderingObama will be reunited with German chancellor and BFF Angela Merkel on May 25 in Berlin for a panel titled "Being Involved in Democracy: Taking on Responsibility Locally and Globally."
It's part of the biennial German Protestant Kirchentag, a wide-ranging festival that features music, panels, and more. And this year's celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

So, to recap: Obama's first big speech since leaving office, with Merkel, in Germany, on a huge anniversary. Pretty big deal, no?
And adding a touch of heat to the fun is that Obama's appearance will likely overshadow a big moment for Donald Trump, as he arrives that same day in Brussels for a NATO summit. And we all know how much Trump hates it when he's not the one in the spotlight.
It will probably come off as especially galling for Trump, as Obama is beloved both in Germany (remember that ginormous 2008 rally?) and by Merkel, who had an infamously icy first meeting with Trump just a few weeks back.

Yeah, yikes.
There's also a good chance that Trump, who is not sensitive at all, will take Merkel's absence as a slight.
Suffice to say, when the European press fawns over Obama while Trump stumbles his way through another difficult meeting of foreign powers still wondering what, exactly, the hell the U.S. got the world in to, you can probably expect some fire tweets from Trump on European time.
