Here is a sampling of some of the new words coming to Scrabble:
Emoji(noun)a small computer symbol used to express emotion
Ew(interjection) used to express disgust
Facepalm (verb) to cover the face with the hand
Macaron(noun)a cookie with filling in the middle
Puggle(noun)a kind of dog
Sriracha(noun)a spicy pepper sauce
In order to be added to the Scrabbledictionary, words have to fit within a few rules: "Words must be found in a standard dictionary and cannot be abbreviations, capitalized words, or words containing hyphens or apostrophes. All words must also be between two to eight letters in length."
The last edition of the Scrabble player's dictionary came out in 2014 and included words like beatbox, meh, and selfie. Scrabbleis keeping up with the times. Slowly. But it's still keeping up.
