Amazon Prime Now is erotice literaturethe souped-up version of the regular online delivery service with its promise to get certain items in select locations to your door within two hours. Now it's hoping to deliver the news -- and pronto.
SEE ALSO: China ironically decides to clamp down on online news outlets on World Press Freedom DayPublishers in major Spanish cities, like Madrid and Barcelona, have teamed up with Amazon so that a physical newspaper can be ordered through the expedited delivery service.
El Pais, Spain's major newspaper with bureaus also in Latin America, will be brought to your door within the two-hour delivery window. Or you can pay more to get it within an hour.
An Amazon spokesperson said the publication was added last month to the Prime Now inventory -- and is available in Madrid (and soon Barcelona) with any Prime Now purchase of at least €19.95. So you can't just order the paper -- unless you order a bunch of copies of it.
Of course El Paisis not only available in its physical paper form -- its website with fresh news stories is alive and well. But in a Neiman Labinterview the paper's parent company Prisa Noticias said the partnership is about expanding their readership. "We have closed this deal to reach a new segment of clients," Prisa's director of communications said.
To encourage more traditional newspaper readers, a free copy of the paper has been coming with all Prime Now orders out of Madrid since last week. A new promotion through May 14 adds free copies of El Paisif customers add the paper to their shopping carts. This is expected to get people used to ordering the paper online -- and after May 14 they will be charged newsstand prices to read the paper in print.
Barcelona is the next city to get in on the newspaper delivery.
Until this comes to more cities we'll just have to use the internet to stay up on the news.
