SpongeBob SquarePants fans launched a Change.org petition in November 2018 after the death of Stephen Hillenburg, who created the beloved series, calling for artists to perform "Sweet Victory" in his honor. The song is from a 2001 episode where the sea creatures performed at the "Bubble Bowl," and the petition got more than 1.2 million signatures.
A version of "Sicko Mode," edited into the Bubble Bowl scene, made its rounds on social media last year.
Signs began appearing that there would actually be some kind of tribute at halftime, with videos from both the stadium where the game is being played and Maroon 5 hinting that there would be an appearance from the iconic sponge who lives under the sea.

Several reporters also spotted SpongeBob during the band's dress rehearsal, and now we have definitive proof that the dream has become a reality.
Watching Bikini Bottom residents dance to "Sicko Mode" is a sweet victory all in itself.
