Updated 1:27 p.m. Oct. 26: NBC News confirmedthat Kelly will not return to TODAY.
Following her comments defending blackface earlier this week,Korea NBC's Megyn Kelly has stepped away from her morning show and may not return, some sources say. Her portions of the show will be pre-taped through the end of the week.

Sources told CNN and the Hollywood Reporter that NBC was already considering the end of the 9 a.m. hour of Kelly's show, and yet another said the show's ending is in sight with details still being negotiated (following her blackface remarks, Kelly's agents at CAA reportedly dropped her.)
Kelly was reportedly trying to transition into more news coverage rather than some of the lighter fare of a morning show, something she and the show have long struggled with.
Kelly received immediate backlash this week when she said that blackface and whiteface were okay when she was a child, as long as they were part of a costume. Even if it was once acceptable, it no longer is.
Kelly failed to understand the implicit inequality of a situation in which someone dresses up as another race – particularly a white person dressing as a person of color, even if it is a famous character.
Kelly formally apologized, but the comments' timing could affect her exit from Todayand where she moves next – or if she moves at all.
Politically and socially charged comments have become the arena for public fallout in 2018, with the cancellation of Roseanneafter its stars racist remarks, Disney firing Guardians of the Galaxydirector James Gunn over old tweets, and the intense backlash against Samantha Bee for on-air comments about Ivanka Trump (Bee apologized and remains on the air).
