The NFL has made watching every game this season notoriously complicated. Do you really need a handful of streaming services just to catch your favorite team? As a matter of fact, yes. If you're a cable-hating cord cutter, you'll need even more. One of the newest additions to the NFL broadcast schedule in 2024 is Netflix's Christmas Gameday. Just like it sounds, Netflix will now exclusively air two NFL games on Christmas Day.
It's not just about football, either. On Nov. 17, Netflix also announced that Beyoncé will be performing live at halftime during the second game of the Dec. 25 broadcast. Consider it your Christmas gift, Beyhive. Not to mention, Mariah Carey, the Queen of Christmas herself, will be opening the day with a taped performance of "All I Want for Christmas is You" following her "largest and most spectacular Christmas tour to date."
This marks the first professional sports league to partner with Netflix for live games, although the platform just streamed the high-profile boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson — which didn't exactly go smoothly. Netflix experienced embarrassing buffering problems during the live fight, and football fans can only hope Netflix has solved its live streaming problems come Christmas Day.
"The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition and to partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans," says Hans Schroeder, NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution.
Here's everything you need to know about how to watch the NFL Christmas games during the first-ever Netflix NFL Christmas Gameday.
Netflix is airing two NFL games on Dec. 25, starting at 1 p.m. ET with the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers. The Baltimore Ravens will then take on the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Beyoncé will fittingly perform at halftime during the 4:30 p.m. ET Ravens vs. Texans game in her hometown of Houston. For those who are only tuning in for her performance, it'll likely be closer to 5:45 p.m. ET, depending on how the first half unfolds.
This will be the first time the Texan performs tracks from her Cowboy Carteralbum live. The press release from Netflix notes: "Although the details of her performance are under wraps, Beyoncé is expected to feature some special guests who are featured on the Cowboy Carter album." Those featured artists include Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Shaboozey, Dolly Parton, Willie Jones, Linda Martell, Willie Nelson, and more.
While Netflix is the official global home of the NFL’s two Christmas Day marquee games, it's actually not the only place you can tune in. If you live in one of the competing team's cities or the surrounding markets, you'll still be able to catch the game on broadcast TV. You can also tune into the game on U.S. mobile devices through NFL+, the league's official subscription service.
There are three Netflix plans to choose from: Standard with ads for $6.99 per month, Standard for $15.49 per month, or Premium for $22.99 per month. However, before you sign up, check to see if you're eligible for one of the deals below. You may be able to secure a Netflix subscription for free — or at least at a discount. Be sure to read all of the details carefully and snag the deals before they expire. As of Dec. 17, these are the best Netflix deals we could find for new customers.
Verizon is offering an entire year of Netflix and Max (with ads) for those who sign up for select Verizon Home Internet plans, including 5G Home Plus, LTE Home Plus, Fios 1 Gig, or Fios 2 Gig plans. You must enroll in the perk within 60 days after your VHI purchase or by no later than March 2, 2025 (whichever comes first), then register the perks directly with Netflix and Max within 90 days of enrollment. Once your 12-month perk expires, the Netflix and Max bundle will resume its normal cost of $10 per month unless you cancel. For more on terms and conditions, head to the promo page and select "Details" next to the Special Offer.
Verizon customers with myPlan can add the Netflix and Max bundle to their account for only $10 per month (reg. $16.98 per month). That essentially gets you Netflix with ads for free. You'll need an Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus, or Unlimited Ultimate plan to be eligible (learn more on the Verizon support page). After enrolling in the promo, you'll also have to complete the account setup separately for each service.
Verizon +play, a free part of Verizon’s website (as long as you're a Verizon customer) where you can sign up for and centralize your different subscription services, regularly offers multiple ways to score Netflix for free. As of Dec. 11, these two are standouts:
Buy one year of NFL+ Premium, get Netflix Premium for free — Buy a one-year subscription of NFL+ Premium for $99.99 through Verizon +play and enjoy Netflix Premium for a year for free. That's a $22.99 per month value on them. Once the year is up, the price will revert back to $22.99 per month, so be sure to cancel through your +play account to avoid that charge.
Buy Uber One, get Netflix Premium for free — When you buy an annual Uber One plan for $96 per year, you'll also get a free year of Netflix Premium (a $22.99 per month value). Like the previous deal, the price will revert back to $22.99 per month once the promotional period ends. Be sure to cancel ahead of time if you want to avoid charges.
T-Mobile customers have one of the best streaming lineups — if not thebest — at their fingertips for free, including Netflix Standard with ads (reg. $6.99 per month). As long as your account remains in good standing, customers on most Go5G plans are able to get the deal. Here are the details.
You need to have two or more lines of any type of Go5G or Magenta plan or at least one line of Go5G Next, Go5G Plus, or Magenta MAX to secure Netflix with ads for free. You'll have to manually activate your subscription by logging into My T-Mobileand selecting "Manage add-ons". Once there, choose "add Netflix" in the Services section and you'll be prompted to either create a new Netflix account or sign in to your existing one. T-Mobile will be in charge of paying Netflix for you. Just note that if you already have a Netflix account, it may take a few billing cycles to transfer your bill over to T-Mobile.
