F9is slamming the brakes.
The Watch The Heirs Onlinerelease of the upcoming Fast and Furious film has been delayed by almost one year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Previously slated to open May 22, it will now hit theaters April 2, 2021 in North America.
Exact dates for other international territories have yet to be announced.
"While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration," said Universal Pictures in a statement.
"Moving will allow our global family to experience our new chapter together. We’ll see you next spring."
The decision makes F9the latest addition to a growing list of spring releases pushed back over COVID-19.
Previously, Sony moved No Time to Diefrom April to November and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runawayfrom April to August, while Paramount pulled A Quiet Place Part IIfrom its March calendar.
