Ever since Arya Stark made her kill list and The Intern - A Summer of Lusttopped it off with Cersei Lannister’s name, theirs is the face-off I’ve been waiting for. The two haven't shared a scene since early Season 1 but their stories have intertwined in grievous ways.
Arya has managed to knock off a few names off her list, including Walder Frey and Meryn Trant, but Cersei remains the one big profile name on it.
SEE ALSO: How's Arya doing on her kill list ahead of 'Game of Thrones' Season 8?Game of Thrones Season 8 will bring about lots of reunions, some emotional and some awkward. The one we deserve the most is Arya vs. Cersei, especially if it means the former will kill the latter.
Just think of the catharsis.
Cersei and her family have taken too much away from the Starks. At this point, she hasn’t thought of Arya in forever, believing her to be dead. She has no freakin' idea just how big of a threat the young Stark girl has turned into.
Season 7 came and went but we didn’t see Cersei finding out (at least on screen) that it was Arya who eliminated the Freys and is at Winterfell by Sansa’s side. Unless Littlefinger secretly passed that info to her before dying or Brienne maybe told Jamie at the Dragon Pit, there's no way she can know.
Arya, meanwhile, is still headstrong in her desire to kill the Queen. She was heading to King's Landing after the Frey massacre for this very mission. The only reason she chose to return home is because she heard of Jon's victory in the Battle of the Bastards. She got momentarily sidetracked (Arya has emotions, too!) but knowing our girl, killing Cersei is still a priority. Her loathing probably increased a thousand-fold once she found out everything Cersei's done to Sansa in the years after Season 1. It's also sure to flare up once she learns of her betrayal by not sending soldiers North to fight with them.
SEE ALSO: Everything you need to remember from Season 7 of 'Game of Thrones'So, how will these two powerful enemies finally collide? Who will win, who will die?
Lots of theories about Cersei's death have been floating around thanks to Maggy the Frog's prophecy. In Season 5's opening scene, a young Cersei visits the seer and learns some not fun things about her future. Most of it has come true: she never married the Prince (Rhaegar) but married the King (Robert). She had three children, each of whom are now dead. The prediction of a younger, more beautiful queen taking Cersei's crown has plagued her in the form of Sansa, Margaery, and now Daenerys.
The most crucial information, which is most relevant to how Arya can get her ultimate revenge, wasn't in the show at all. In A Feast for Crows, we learn the prophecy in its totality. Maggy tells Cersei:
"And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you"
Valonqar translates to "little brother" in High Valyrian. It's partly why Cersei always hated Tyrion. She thought he'd be the one to kill her.
There's another big potential here. Arya has trained with the Faceless Men. If she wants to get to Cersei without difficulty, the fastest way is wearing the face of her younger brother. But which one?
Cersei's twisted love for Jaime makes her forget that her twin, who was born right after her, is technically younger. It'll be easy for Arya to either kill Jaime as they fight the dead or take his face anyway if he perishes. She can then avoid The Mountain or kill him, slip into King's Landing, and even into Cersei's bed to choke her. This is an expected twist.
An unexpected turn is if Arya kills Tyrion and wears his face to kill Cersei. It tracks because they're both of the similar stature. It'll be way more convenient for her to pass off as Tyrion as opposed to Jaime. If either of those happen, Maggy's prophecy will be fulfilled and Arya will succeed.
But that's now how I want Arya vs. Cersei to play out.
Look, Cersei's days are numbered. The entire world is basically against her right now, even her beloved Jaime, as the Night King approaches. She's already survived far too long. She's gotta go and I want Arya to experience the satisfaction of doing the deed. I want Cersei to knowit's Arya who kills her (Olenna gets it!).
Arya spent a long time in that horrid House of Black and White and with The Waif training just for this. I want her to be the one who overthrows the Lannisters while Sansa gives the order to do it, much like the two tackled Littlefinger.
With the Army of the Dead looming overhead and Cersei hiding away at the capital, who knows when we'll see this takedown or if we'll see it at all. There's a good chance Arya won't survive the White Walker attack. If that happens, you'll find me in a corner crying.
There's too much ground to be covered in six episodes. All I know is that all of Arya's kills have been like the first few season of Game of Thrones, great to witness but incomplete. We still need one final moment to see hers and Cersei's fateful, long-awaited meeting; one where she emerges as victorious and checks off the biggest name off her list. Maybe it'll be one big and shockingly killer finale
Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres on April 14 on HBO.
